OPEN CALL FOR BREAKERS: NORDIC HIPHOP TO THE STAGE
Would you like to try something different from battles and cyphers? Are you interested in learning how to use breaking to create stage performances? Then you should apply for a one week international residence programme for dancers in Paris in June 2021.
We are looking for breakers aged 18-30 to attend a residence in Paris for a week between 27 June — 4 July 2021. The program covers all expenses (with travel from North Europe / West Russia) and a stipend. Application is open for residents and/or nationals of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Russia. If you live outside of these countries, the travel-costs covered will be equivalent to travel from your country of origin. You need a valid travel-insurance to take part in the residence.
Residence includes workshops in stage arts, study visits and networking events and is intended to give the participants tools for creating choreographic performances. During the residence you will also create a short demo show with a French director. The residence will be documented in the form of a short video and will start with a digital kick-off in the beginning of 2021. The exact date and time of the kick-off will be set with the selected participants after in November.
5 years of regular training and participation in breaking battles and cyphers
Experience of performing on stage is welcome but not mandatory
Upper-intermediate level of English language is mandatory
HOW TO APPLY:
Film a freestyle of max. 2 minutes, upload it on youtube, vimeo or similar and include the link in the form.
If pre-selected, you will be called for a short interview in English (the dates for the interview will be announced in early November 2020). The final selection will be made in November.
NOTE: The project targets dancers interested in creating performances and making a professional career within dance, but it is not aimed at dancers who already have a professional experience of creating choreography.
Produced by Institut Finlandais, Nordkonst and Art Move Concept, made possible by the Nordic Culture Fund and Nordic Culture Point.
If the COVID-19 situation does not allow for the residence to take place in June 2021, the project will be rescheduled. For questions contact email@example.com
